Wrockwardine end run, Fields earn great win, Horsehay make history
Wrockwardine Wood ended the long unbeaten 21 match run of Sir John Bayley as they beat them 9-5 in week 16 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Tom Killen was their best winner 4, with Stuart Rutter and Josh Bradburn best for the Bayley 12. Castlefields took advantage as they earned their biggest win at Meole Brace 13-3. Captain Steve Peach comments on a “fantastic win, our best result at Meole for some time. It didn’t look like we were going to win after the first four being 3-1 behind but the lads were superb after that and to get 8 winners out of 8 on a green that was playing tricky was fantastic. Our away form this year has been phenomenal and keeps us in a good position for the second half of the season.” Best winner for them was Jon Palmer 6, with Julian Cooke best for Meole 9.
Horsehay earned their first away win in this league after winning 9-7 at Adderley. Vice captain Craig Baugh says “couldn’t have asked for anymore from the leads than they gave on Friday. Our front four lads got to grips with the tricky pace of the green sharing the front and middle. We sensed an upset knowing the agg was tight in the back. Rob Clarke has played the absolute game of his life to win 4 (to be best winner) and then somehow managed to drag Jack Clayton to 9 against Jack Hazeldine who played well in the corners.” Phil Jones and Steve Morrey were best winners for the home side 8. Burway earned a big 12-2 win over the Bylet to put a firm grip on 5th place. Stand in captain Ben Allen said the “greens not quite how we’d like it at the moment but the lads stuck to the task and played well to get a good home win.” Best winner was Kiah Roberts 8 with Bylet’s best being Jamie Wyer by the same score. Ifton got 7 winners at Hanwood but lost on aggregate, Simon Tyler their best winner 12. Phil Lyttle was best for the home side 8. Wem USC got a super six winners at Highley from 3-1 down, George Williams best winner 6, with Bruno Heath best for the hosts 5. St Georges beat Hanmer 9-5 as Joe Killen led the way winning 4. Lee Peate was best for the Dragons 14.
Castlefields are 4 ahead of Sir John Bayley, who are another 22 ahead of Wrockwardine Wood. Horsehay are 14 behind Hanmer who are another 9 adrift of the Bylet. Scott Simpson, Jon Palmer and Owen Jackson are all on 15 wins, with just two chalks separating them, while Dave East has ended his run on 11 to tie with Owen Jackson, Jamie King and Reece Farr.
