Shrewsbury Derby, Fields aim to build, Dragons have Ifton test
There is a Shrewsbury Derby in week 20 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Meole Brace host Hanwood with both teams having had an excellent game in the reverse fixture earlier in the season which Hanwood edged 8-6. Meole captain Chris Jones is “looking forward to welcoming our closest neighbours in what could be a very tight game.” Hanwood skipper Simon Lane says “We always look forward to our games against Meole Brace. The scores have been mixed in recent years but we go there hopeful of giving them a close game and coming away with a few points. It’s very tight between 5th, 6th and 7th place in the league so we are keen to keep the pressure on the teams around us. We look forward to the match which I’m sure will be played in great spirits.” Burway have been in 5th for a while but dropped down to 7th after three defeats on the bounce. It doesn’t get much easier for them as they host a Castlefields side on a 14 match winning streak and come off a vital win last week against rivals Sir John Bayley. Skipper Adam Dovey is “looking to get back on track after a couple of disappointing weeks. We know it’s going to be a massive challenge against a very good side. Missing a few familiar faces as well but still confident the lads can get a good result.” Highley sandwich Hanwood and Burway and will look to go 5th with a good home win over Adderley, but Adderley have had some good away results this season winning at two clubs beginning with H this season, Horsehay and Hanmer.
Sir John Bayley will look to try and reel the leaders in with a good home win over Wem USC, but Wem have had some good results lately and climbed to 8th place. Wrockwardine Wood aim to keep a firm hold of 3rd place with a repeat of the 14-0 home win over Horsehay last year, with Horsehay knowing they need a lot more than that to be able to catch Hanmer above. Hanmer travel to Bylet who are above them in the table but 11 points separate the two teams. Ifton are in 4th but know it will take a great end to the season to finish 3rd again, and travel to St Georges tonight. St Georges skipper Martin Gaut knows “it’s always a tough match when Ifton comes to our place. We’re a few players short of our usual line up, but we’re confident that with the rest of our squad and a couple of guest appearances, we can grind out a hard-fought win at home.”
