Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowls League
Well done to Castlefields for becoming the first Shropshire team to win the Taylor Support Free Press Cup.
They won both their games by 44 and 7 winners, defeating King George V in the Final and beating Atherstone Cons in the Semi Finals.
The final saw Castlefields build up just an 8 chalk lead on the small green. Wayne Rogers won 7 for them from 8-6 up, but Paul Lamb virtually cancelled it out with an 8 win for King George, running out from 13-8 up. Andy Armstrong from 10 across went 20-10 up and won 15. Rich Goddard ran out from 14-9 up but Andy Gibbs kept King George in it winning 10.
Onto the big green and Castlefields build big leads early in two of their games, with the other three about level, with Adam Jones 11-1 and Callum Wraight 9-1 up. Jason Galvin though led 10-5 and Chris Bergin 13-8 for King George, but Adam and Callum extended their lead to be 18-7 up. Jon Palmer from 10-7 up only conceded one more, and with Adam and Callum coming off just after it was game over. Mike Beer recovered against Chris Bergin to only concede one more, but Jason Galvin won 14.
In the Semi Finals Castlefields were only 11 up off four with Ash Wellings running out from 9-5 down. Carl Wilkins won 10 for Atherstone to put them briefly ahead but Rich Goddard won 5 and Callum Wraight 8 to put the game out of reach for the Cons.
