Adderley, Bylet & Burway all look for first win
There are four teams all looking for their first win in week 3 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Adderley face the toughest test of all three as they entertain the Champions Castlefields, already top of the league, albeit having played two home matches. Stand in skipper Chris Stretch says “after a challenging start to the campaign, with just four points from our opening two games, we turn our focus to a tough fixture against Castlefields, last year’s champions. It’s a big test, but also a great opportunity for us to reset and show what we’re capable of. Playing at home gives us that extra edge, and the team is determined to put in a strong performance, push for a positive result, and get back to winning ways against top-quality opposition.” Burway also face a tough game against Ifton, but they come off just one winner at Wrockwardine Wood last year. Skipper Adam Dovey says “first home game of the season for the lads, Ifton making the journey down to us. Small squad at the moment this year due to injuries and other commitments but still hoping for a good start at home against a really strong side in Ifton.” Bylet will know a home win to Hanmer is vital to any chance of survival, but Hanmer come off a good home win last week. Wem USC face an unbeaten side in Hanwood, but will be confident of repeating at least the 9-5 win over them last season. Hanwood will want to recover their form after losing to Sinclair in the Audlem Special Events Alan Mayhew Trophy on Wednesday.
Highley’s unbeaten record will take some maintaining with a visit to Woore, but 6 of them played there last season in the Audlem Special Events Team Alan Mayhew Trophy. Woore will be looking to bounce back from the one winner last week at Castlefields. Wrockwardine Wood are another unbeaten side and make the short trip to St Georges. Skipper Liam Stevens is “looking forward to tomorrow night as ever, with lots of good friends up at St Georges. In honesty, they have had the better of us in head to heads for quite a while now – they won at ours a couple of years back and we haven’t really challenged them at all on their green for a long time – it has historically been a graveyard for us. I think we have scraped together one win and one draw there in the whole 32 year history of the league. The night’s aim is to buck that trend if we can and kick on from what has been a very positive start.” Sir John Bayley will look for more of the same after last week’s whitewash as they take on Meole Brace, who themselves come off a whitewash, so both teams will want to build on that.
