Burway shock Bayley, Highley earn super six, Woore with big win
Burway shocked Sir John Bayley in week 12 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League as they took 8 winners on Haygate Road. They didn’t quite win the aggregate, but captain Adam Dovey was delighted regardless. “Unbelievable result on Friday. A massive shock, but we do know on our day we can compete with the top teams. The lads battled really well in the front to grind two games out and gave the team belief that we can get a good result. We edged out a lot of the close games which is testament to how the lads stayed in their games and dug in. I can’t remember seeing a result where the Bayley have lost at home so it really was a massive performance. Hopefully we can carry the form on in the season now.” Adam himself was best winner 15 along with Liam Dovey. Pete Grimston and Chris Dodds were best for the Bayley 21-6. Wrockwardine Wood could only manage an 8-6 win over Highley, led by Rich Holmes winning 12. Clay Flattley was best for the home side 21-1.
Woore had a great home win 12-2 over Meole Brace. Skipper Dan Hand says “A home game against a side who possibly only had 2 players who had seen the green before so we knew we had to take full advantage. We did just that with a solid 10 winners and 2 very close losers. The sort of home performance we should be producing.” Best winner was Martin Lloyd 3 with Andrew Whitman best for Meole 19. Ifton beat Hanwood 10-4 led by Nick Hughes winning 4. Darren Wellings was best winner 13 for the visitors. Bylet earned their second win of the season 8-6 over Adderley. Rob Renke and Ian Hopson were best winners 10, with captain Gary Whitehall best for the Adders 11. St Georges defeated Hanmer 9-5, Ian Gaut best winner 3. Jacob Jones was best for the away side 8.
Castlefields are 7 clear of Sir John Bayley and another 5 ahead of Wrockwardine Wood. Bylet are 20 behind Adderley and 3 behind Hanmer. Tom Palmer leads four others on 11 wins.
