Week 23 Preview

Bayley face must win, Hanmer face Fields, Wem face North Shropshire rivals

Sir John Bayley face a must win game in week 23 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. They travel to Wrockwardine Wood knowing if they are to bridge the 7 point gap to leaders Castlefields they need to win there like the Fields did. Vice-captain Spencer Clarke says “tonight’s game doesn’t get much tougher than away at the Wrockites, who will no doubt want to set a marker down for the County Cup final as well as defending home soil. We know what we need to do and it’s full credit to our lads to still be clinging on in the title race. It promises to be an intriguing contest.” The Fields travel to Hanmer knowing a big win there could extend the gap even further. Hanmer skipper Dave Ellison says “we entertain the league leaders Castlefields and our home form lately has been very good. Potentially it’s a banana skin for them and I’m sure SJB will be keeping a close eye on the outcome. Truthfully they are a quality side from 1-12 but we will give it a go and make the league interesting for the last few weeks of the season.”

Wem USC entertain Woore knowing a big win is needed to get anywhere near their rivals. Captain Curtis Metcalfe says “on the back of Wednesday’s Harris Cup semi final triumph over SJB we are in high spirits going into this game and after beating Woore earlier this season on their own green we will be looking to do the double over them. It will be a mid table finish again for us this year but we want to be finishing our season on a high and keep ourselves in good form going into the Harris cup final on the 12th September.” Woore are still looking at a top 5 finish, but have three out of the last four away from home. Hanwood will be confident of a top 5 finish with three of their last four games at home, starting with the visit of Highley. Highley though are only 6 behind Hanwood and will be looking for a close result to keep them in touch of a top 5 place. Ifton host Meole Brace knowing that 4th is locked in for them while Meole are hunting a top half finish, sitting 7 points off that at the moment. Burway host Adderley with both teams looking for a top 10 finish this season, with Burway favourites given that they have three of their last four at home. St Georges are also looking for a top 10 finish and host a Bylet side that may well be finishing bottom but are in their best form of the season with two good home wins recently.
