Sir John Bayley won the Alan Mayhew trophy for the first time last night. They were never behind after Gavin Taylor won 21-11 in the first four and eventually won by 27 chalks. In front of a large crowd, the first 4 Bayley players settled the better and with the exception of Pete Sherry enjoyed healthy leads. They eventually led by 22 shots with all four winners and whilst 2 cards appeared to be going the “Wrockites” way in the middle four, the Bayley lads recovered well and with three winners and Norman Harvey only dropping 4 chalks, thy increased their advantage to 34 chalks. The game never looked in danger in the back four and whilst Wrockwardine Wood had 3 winners, the Trophy had been won by the better side and the eventual winning margin was 27 chalks.
Mike Hinton, the current league President and Sir John Bayley player, presents the cup to Dave Birch, the victorious captain.
