Meole fightback, Castlefields back on track, Bayley continue revival
Meole fought back from 3-1 down against Newport to win 9-5 and to move further clear at the top of the table. Newport were impressive in the first four, winning 3 of the games but only being level on aggregate. Scott Harries won 20, Mark Selley 18 to win MVP and Sam Millward 14 for the visitors but MVP Pete Bound won 21-11 for the home team to level the aggregate. Newport then got a winner in each of the middle and back four, Pete Farmer 17 and Kevin Keary won 11 at number 12 to be their best winner. Meole’s best winner was Andy Wigginton 9. Meole gained 6 points on St Georges as they only scored 3 points at Castlefields. Castlefields bounced back from their inconsistent start and captain Keith Walton was “happy that they showed we are not finished just yet like people say, it was a very good win against a strong Dragons team.” Best winners for Castlefields were Kevin Walker and Adam Jones 7, whilst Dave Peach won MVP for winning 20. Best winner for St Georges was Simon Rhodes 14, whilst Glyn Picknell earned their MVP award.
Sir John Bayley continued their revivial with an excellent 10-4 win at Hadley USC. Each of the first four and middle four were shared but the Bayley took the whole of the back four, including 2 19s to seal an excellent win. Norman Harvey and Alex Jones both won 15 and 8 to win MVP and best winner respectively in the first four for the visitors, with best winner Jamie Wyer 10 and MVP Nick Wyer 13 responding for the hosts. Kris Lewis added another 10 win for the home side but it was Bayley who had the last laugh. Bayley captain Tom Roden was impressed “that the back four finally clicked together to seal a fine win.”
Burway secured an impressive away win at the Bylet, winning 5 games and the shots by 2 chalks. Two 5 wins by Kiah Roberts and Ben Allen won them the extra two points, the former earning MVP. Tom McGill was the best winner for the home side winning 6 also earning him the MVP award. Archibald Worthington gained two points on the Bylet by beating Bowring 9-5 at home. Dave Gourlay earned the MVP award winning 8, while Steve Heath was best winner winning 5. Away skipper Rich Lawson continued his unbeaten start winning 4 and the MVP award too.
Chester Road continued their run of taking 3 winners in the back four away from 7-1 down as they did that again at Wrockwardine Wood. Paul Griffiths was their best winner winning 14, whilst Gary Beff took the MVP award winning 19. Best Winner and MVP for the hosts was Stuart Rutter winning 5. Ifton will be happy with their 5 at Wem USC, especially with all the winners being above 16. Leighton Roberts took the MVP for being the best winner for the away side, whilst best winner and MVP for the home side was Chris Brettell 7.
Meole Brace have extended their lead to 9 points over St Georges with Newport a further 4 back. At the bottom Archibald Worthington and Bylet are both on 31 points.
Only one person remains unbeaten which is Rich Lawson from the Bowring with a perfect 8 out of 8, whilst Leighton Roberts and Stuart Rutter have joined those who were on 3 MVPs.
