Top two at home, Archie look to make ground, Telford Derby
This week sees two rounds of matches in the Flowfit Shropshire Premier League on the Wednesday and Friday. The Wednesday sees the top two at home, with second placed Meole Brace having the tougher task as they host 5th placed Burway. Burway have been very impressive this year at home and have produced some good results away too so Meole will have to be wary of them. The last two games have been 10-4 to Meole and Burway will be looking for something similar. Newport will look to take advantage as they play 11th placed Chester Road. Chester Road have averaged 2 points there for the last 3 seasons so Newport will be looking to extend their advantage at the top.
4th placed Bayley face a tough trip to 3rd placed Ifton. Ifton had a great 10-4 win on Saturday away at Archibald Worthington to move into 3rd ahead of the Bayley and will be looking to extend their advantage over them. Captain Dickie Jones says “confidence is high after Saturday’s win and we welcome back Darren Lacey, Leighton Roberts, Simon Tyler and Richard Zolman. With only 3 home games left we need at least 10 points to try and maintain our good league position but we know it will be tough as Sir John Bayley are a good side.” The Bayley suffered a disappointing 11-3 defeat at Bowring Friday and will be looking to bounce back. The Bowring however will be going to Hadley USC full of confidence after a serious of good results and will look to take advantage of a Hadley team missing 5 regulars. It has always been a close game between the two as only 3 and 11 shots have covered the games at Hadley over the last two seasons.
Archibald Worthington will look to bounce back from their home defeats Friday and Saturday as they take on Castlefields. Castlefields have been poor on a Wednesday this season, scoring 3 from their trips to Hadley USC and Wrockwardine Wood this season so will be hoping to improve on this, especially as their home form has become decent. Another team looking to bounce back will be Wrockwardine Wood after they suffered a shock first home defeat to Wem USC last Friday. They host Bylet who will be looking to keep themselves above Archibald Worthington at the bottom of the table. Wem though will be looking to build on that win as they host St Georges. Wem have moved into 10th and with 3 consecutive home games coming up they will hope to move up the table with 3rd only 18 points off. St Georges though will be looking to build on their decent 5 from Friday away at Burway and move further up the table themselves.
