Comments:
Well despite Burway virtually matching last season’s performance by finishing only one point off last year’s total it meant a drop of 2 places in the table. Their home form was the key, winning all but one of their games, a shock 10-4 loss to Wrockwardine Wood their only blemish. Their home form featured a 12-2 hammering of 4th placed Sir John Bayley and a 11-3 win over Champions Newport. They also won two away games, both at the bottom two, Archibald Worthington 10-4 and Bylet 7-7. They looked like they would have a good finish and challenge the top 6 however 10 points from 3 matches near the end of the season meant they only just finished 9th by a single point after their 12-2 thrashing of Archibald Worthington last game of the season.
However their cup form was again awesome, only losing one game in the Alan Mayhew and Pool B together. They had a great run to the finals of both, beating Wrockwardine Wood by 14, Hanwood by 3 and Chester Road by 12 in the Mayhew to set up a final with Newport at Pontesbury. They gave the holders a run for their money, leading by 4 off the front four, then overcoming a 3 shot deficit off the middle to lead by 14 off 10. However they couldn’t get the chalks they needed and were edged out by the closest of margins, 1 chalk. But they bounced back in the Pool B, receiving a bye into the Semi Finals before beating Wem USC by 49 and then Hadley USC by 2 in the final at Sir John Bayley.
