Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowls League
Four games of the six first round ties were completed tonight in the Black Tech Ltd Alan Mayhew Trophy and the most eye catching result was Chester Road beating Sir John Bayley. Chester Road won by 22 at home, with Paul Griffiths and Paul Williams winning 6 and 7, and won away by 36, having 5 out of the 6 winners led by Ian McDonald’s 21-8, a performance which pleased captain Paul Fowles. “We were happy with our performance on Friday and very happy with tonight’s too.” The Bayley were missing some first team players but it was still an excellent win by the boys from Whitchurch, despite Paul Reeves winning 7 on Chester Road and Jason Groom 18 at home. They will now take on their North Shropshire neighbours Wem USC after they beating Wrockwardine Wood by 15 overall, winning by 24 at home and 9 away. Derek Wright and Mike Dulson both won 11 at home with Wrockwardine Wood only having one winner, Martin Williams 14. Away from home Wrockwardine had 3 winners, George Williams the best 17, as only Stuart Rutter winning 8 for the Wrockites could do major damage. Wem captain Mike Dulson said “a solid team performance, to give us so much needed confidence! Keeping the Wrockites to single figures at their place was a superb performance from our away boys.”
In the other half Castlefields beat Hadley USC by 49 overall, having all 6 winners on Hadley winning by 41 but just by 8 at home. Clay Flattley, Mike Beer and Jon Palmer both won 12 at Hadley to be best winners. At Castlefields it was three winner apiece, Paul Williams winning 6 for the home side and Simon Homer 7 for the away side. Bowring beat Bylet despite being 15 down after 3 at each leg, with Andy James winning 7 at home for Bylet and Jamie Taylor 15 away to be best winners. But Bowring recovered to have all six winners in the back, Steve Broome and Aaron King winning 10 home and away respectively.
