Bylet earn big win, Chester Road gain good result at Fields

Bylet earned an excellent home win of 11-3 against Hadley USC in week four of the Flowfit Shropshire Premier Bowling League to build on their good 6 last week at Burway. It was a closely fought game with the biggest card being only 11, Rob Steventon and Scott Harries winning by that score, the former also earning MVP, for the home side. Hadley managed to score over 200 but Bylet managed to use home knowledge on a tricky green to gain a great result finishing games off clinically. It could have been better as Hadley only managed two 18s and a 19 winner, Nick Wyer and Steve Homer winning 18 and James Duce 19 to win MVP on his return to his former club. Chester Road managed an fantastic five at Castlefields, led by Andy Moss’ 13 win and Paul Williams beating his namesake 18 to earn MVP. Captain Paul Fowles was “over the moon with Paul Williams and Paul Latham gaining good wins. Happy with the progress we are making with two big cup games coming up which we are looking to win!” Best card for the home side was Callum Wraight 8 with Dave Peach winning MVP for winning 10.

Newport gained a super seven winners at Wem USC, normally one of their bogey greens. They couldn’t add the two aggregate points though as Mike Dulson and Neil Boxall both won 5 for the home side, the former also winning MVP. Chris Grocott was best winner for Newport winning 13 while John Roberts Jnr earned his first MVP winning 18. St Georges beat Sir John Bayley 10-4 on a pacy top green. Ian Gaut was best winner and MVP for the home side winning 3 while Scott Simpson won 11 and MVP for the visitors. Hanwood earned a 10-4 victory over Burway with Dave Burton being best winner 4 and Greg Smith getting MVP for winning 15. Best winner for the away side was Mark Rogers 12 with Len Lewis one of two 20 winners for the away side earning MVP.

Bowring remain top of the league though after getting 5 at Wrockwardine Wood in a close game. Despite 3 of their 4 ex-Wrockites losing Aaron King kept up his good form winning MVP for a third time as he won 16, with former Wrockite Steve Broome being best winner 11. For the home side Martin Williams was best winner 11 and Rob Fuller earned MVP for winning 20. Bowring captain Rich Lawson commented on “a hard fought 5 points against a very good Wrockwardine side, both teams were very up for it and it felt more like a cup tie at times. The game could have gone either way but the home side deserved their victory. Pleased with the 5 points and now looking to build on that in next week’s home game.”

It is all very tight in the table with only 13 points between top and bottom. Bowring lead by 2 to Sir John Bayley, Castlefields and St Georges with Meole Brace a further one behind, knowing that four points from their game at Newport on Wednesday will see them top again. Wem USC are bottom one adrift of Hadley USC. Aaron King leads the averages and MVPs .
