Chester Road stun champs, Meole move clear at top

Chester Road stunned the Champions Newport in week 5 of the Flowfit Shropshire Premier Bowling League inflicting their worse defeat on them since 2007 with a 13-1 win. Alan Davidson spared the whitewash winning 20 and MVP. Best winner and MVP for Chester Road was Ian McDonald 7. Captain Paul Fowles says “the team are going well with a super win last night. Our green is getting better every day and the team spirit is very good and even though they are weaker they still have half a dozen top players so very happy.” Hadley USC picked up their home win of the season beating St Georges 9-5. They took a 3-1 lead with Justin Pegram best winner 10 and gaining MVP before the Dragons hit back taking all 4 in the middle, led by MVP and best winner Paul Beer 10, to take a 5-3 lead and by 20 shots. But Hadley bounced back to take all four in the back and win the aggregate by 13 chalks. Captain Rob Burroughs was happy with the win, “we needed to get another win to kick start our season and we achieved that. Never easy playing a good St Georges team but after a good start our back four were all excellent to bring home the aggregate and a vital win. Justin Pegram coming in for his first start this season was excellent for us and we now need to keep this up for the next few weeks.”

Wem USC also had all the winners in the back four at the Bowring to gain 5 winners after being 7-1 down. Josh Bradburn won 3 first four for best winner and Andy Jones took MVP for winning 11 for the home side while Mike Fielder was the sole winner first eight winning 12 and MVP. In the back Derek Wright was the best of the four winning 6. Captain Mike Dulson was happy “with a good 5 against a side that will be pushing for a top 3 place this year. We deserved perhaps another 2 points on how the match played out, however we left happy with our return. The stand out performance was John Bushill winning a close game at 19 but we have lost all our tight games this year to date. 8 specific games 18 and above for which if the scores had have been reversed we would be in mid table.” Sir John Bayley joined Bowring on 41 points in second place after beating Hanwood 11-3. Best winner again at home was Paul Evans 7 but MVP was Steve Burroughs winning 9. For the visitors best winner and MVP was Danny Wornell winning 8.

Meole have gone 5 clear of the Wellington pair after a 12-2 home win over Bylet. Best winner was Colin Beaman 8 with Darren Wellings gaining MVP winning 14. For the visitors the two winners were Chris Chamberlain 10, and MVP, and Rob Steventon 17. Ifton also gained a 12-2 home win over Wrockwardine Wood to go 6 behind Meole with a home game in hand against St Georges on Wednesday. Best winner was Craig Griffiths 5 with Kevin Nicholas winning 9 for MVP, while for the away side John Clarke was best winner 10 with the other winner being Stuart Rutter 17 earning him MVP. Castlefields got a good 5 at Burway but will be ruing letting a 3-1 lead slip. Clay Flattley was best winner 8 and Mike Beer MVP for winning 10 for them but Burway hit back with Ben Allen best winner 11 and Russell Davies winning 19 for MVP.

Meole Brace are 5 points clear of Bowring and Sir John Bayley will Ifton a further point behind with a game in hand. Aaron King still leads the averages with 5 players still having won all 5, with 4 St Georges or Ifton players behind also being 100% with a game in hand. Aaron and Stuart Rutter both have 3 MVPs.
