Dragons roar top, Bayley earn excellent eight, Meole edged out

St Georges are top of the Flowfit Shropshire Premier Bowling League in week 21 after hammering Bylet 13-1, which left captain Tony Rhodes “chuffed. We would have loved all of them but keeps us in the mix and with 3 out of our last 4 at home we hope to stay in the mix.” Only Kevin Brazier managed to douse the Dragons’ fire, winning 20 to earn MVP to. For the home side Jim Kellett was best winner 7 while Pete Grimston got MVP for beating former homester Scott Harries 16. Sir John Bayley moved into 2nd after an excellent eight points at Wem USC, but failed to win the aggregate for the extra two points. What was remarkable about the scoreline was that the Bayley had 5 21-20 winners as well as a 19. Captain Spencer Clarke was very happy as “Wem play their green exceptionally well so to come away with a hard fought 8 points was terrific. The lads gave everything and battled superbly for every chalk, in the front four we looked like going 4-0 down but somehow scrambled a 3-1 lead. The middle four was  a similar outcome as we squeezed out three 21-20 wins to take us into a 6-2 lead but down on agg!  Paul Reeves (MVP and best winner 8) put in another classy performance in the back as we finished on 8 points to keep us firmly in the title race. The result was no doubt a little harsh on Wem although ironically, before the match, I was cursing the number of 21-20 losses we have had throughout the season, so this helps to rebalance somewhat.”  Best winner for the home side was captain Mike Dulson 6 but Colin Smith got MVP for winning 8. Spencer has been busy calculating over the last few weeks his predictions for the last few games and comments “according to the G-app we now have new favourites in St. Georges by 2 pts. But it’s all to play for!”

Chester Road slipped down to 3rd after getting 4 winners at Bowring. Andy Moss won again for the visitors, leading the way with a 7 win, but KP Jones got MVP for his 20 win. For the home side Liam Stevens won MVP for winning 11 but best winner was Aaron King who won 7. Meole Brace just dipped out at Wrockwardine Wood who won another game by just 7 shots in a 8-6 win. Wrockites skipper Tom Langford led the way with his 7 win but Phil Clee got MVP for winning 17. For Meole Will Tarrell won 8 and Ade Rowe got MVP for his 20 win. Castlefields are only 10 behind in 5th as they beat Ifton 11-3, but joint captain Callum Wraight was ruing not winning bigger as “Ifton had a few out with a cup match between Esclusham and Cunliffe taking place. We wanted a bigger win!” Mike Beer and Paul Williams both won 4 to be joint best winners, but Mike got MVP. For the visitors Adrian Humphries was best winner 12 and Brian Hayes got MVP winning 17.

Hanwood hammered Hadley USC 13-1 to move into 8th place. It was “an awesome performance” as described by joint captain Mark Shore. Danny Wornell led the way winning 1 to be best winner and MVP with only Phil King stemming the tide for Hadley, winning 15 to be MVP also. Burway gained a great 5 at Newport. Spokesman Wayne Rogers commented that “Newport had a weaker team than in previous years but Burway played well for our 5. We would have taken 4 before but in the end 5 did not flatter us as Ben Allen led 15-8 and lost so 6 was not far away!” Wayne went onto joke, “It sets us up for next week when we play a weakened Chester Road because their players won’t travel to Burway!”

Andy Moss still leads by 2 wins at the top of the League Averages but Wayne Rogers is still one win ahead of him for most consecutive wins. Stuart Rutter still leads by one MVP but Paul Evans has joined James Duce on one MVP behind.
