Beaman so close to Semis!

Meole Brace’s Colin Beaman was so close to the Semi Finals of the Senior Individual Merit as he fought his way back from 20-13 down to lay game on at 20 across with a good lead before his opponent Ross Meese drew it last bowl. He had previously defeated Liam Baxter 8, Andrew Raymond 12 and Phil Lee 15 to get to the Quarter Finals. Scott Simpson of Sir John Bayley reached the last 16 after beating John Durrands 8, Matt Kelly-Wally 11 before losing out to Ben Percival, while Robin Bennett was the only other player to win a game, beating Pete Bound of Meole Brace 13 before losing to Ryan Prosser. The in-form Callum Wraight was a surprise first round loser to Adam Kirby 17, while his Castlefields team mate Glyn Herbert lost to Matt Gillies 15 on the other green first game. Kieron Roberts of Ifton lost out first game to Peter Illidge.

Darren Plenderleith, of host county North Midlands, won the competition after beating Ross Meese in the final 17.
