Greg wins another Masters to net Champs Spot!

Hanwood’s Greg Smith finally earned his place at this year’s Champion of Champions after he won the Midland Masters once again by beating Bowring’s Josh Bradburn in the final. Greg was different class in the final as he beat Josh 6, after enjoying a very comfortable passage there. He defeated Willie Owen 8, Matt Allen 12, Ian Brown 5, Joe Williamson 8 and then Paul Dale 8 to. Josh though will reflect on an excellent day after beating Andy Milsom 18, then having another close game with Darrell Handley before winning 20. He then defeated Meole Brace’s Colin Beaman 17, Craig Pearson 16 and Barry Booth 19 in the Semi Finals. Colin had defeated Kevin Handley 19 and Richard Gill 6 on his way to meeting Josh. Rich Lawson of Bowring made the last 16 after getting past Dave Semper 13 and Will Kay 15. St Georges’ Ian Gaut and Martin Gaut of Wrockwardine Wood, as well as Newport’s Pete Farmer and Pete Cookson and Scott Moseley of Meole Brace, made the second round, beating Mick Bacon 13, Richard Burdett Mnr 18, Steve Pratt 15, Carl Wilkins 14 and Jordie Baddeley 13 respectively. Tony Rhodes from St Georges, Wayne Phillips of Hanwood, Burway’s Wayne Rogers and Aaron Tapper of Sir John Bayley all lost 1st round, while Mark Taylor from Castlefields was ill.
