Blair Heating & Plumbing Pool A&B Semi Finals Preview

Pool A

Old friends collide and a repeat of the KGJ Insurance County Cup Semi Final are the two Semi Finals of the Blair Heating & Plumbing Pool A. Hanwood are looking for a cup double, but joint captain Mark Shore faces his former team Sir John Bayley who are desperate to end the season with some silverware. Stand-in captain Spencer Clarke says “the lads have battled really well this year but the reality is the Pool A competition represents our last throw of the dice for some silverware so fingers crossed we can perform and make it through to finals night.   Hanwood have had another solid season so it should be a good match and, regardless of the result, it will be good to catch up with old friends.” The other tie sees Bowring look to get one back over St Georges who ended their defence of the KGJ Insurance County Cup and stole 4th from them in the last game. Vice-captain Rob Roden comments on a “hard game, maybe have a chance for us to beat them after they thrashed us in the County Cup.” St Georges will look to add another trophy to their collection from this season, and come over a big win over Meole Brace last round.

Pool B

Last year’s two Pool Competition winner hope to make it another final as Chester Road face Burway and Ifton take on Wem USC. Chester Road captain Paul Fowles comments that “it is the only one we have not won in the prem. We would rather be in the big one but we will be giving it our best shot.” They did win the big one in the Pool A last season, and will hope to become the first time to win the Pool A and B in consecutive seasons. Burway will look to get to another final in this competition, last year was the first time since their entry into the league they haven’t, winning all three semi finals they have taken part in previously in this competition. Ifton have won this trophy the most times, and would look to keep their fine record going but face a Wem USC team eager to get some form and practice ahead of Friday’s playoff match. Ifton skipper Dickie Jones comments “it’s a competition we seem to do well in. We won it last year so it would be nice to win it again, but it won’t be easy as Wem will know the green slightly better and will want to get into some form before Friday.” Wem had a good win over Bylet to halt their slide and after their Shropshire Cup Star success last weekend will want to continue that form.
