Wrockites continue form, Castlefields edge out Bylet, Hanwood hammer Wem

Wrockwardine Wood have continued their good start to the season by winning at Meole Brace in Gameweek 7 of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League. They won there 10-6 and by 9 chalks to delight captain Stuart Clee again. “Very pleased to get another away win. We went there and again, achieved what we thought we could. Battled well from 1-12 and with our lowest score on the night being 12 it shows that we were in every single game and what a brilliant contribution everyone made to the win. My boys have been and continue to be fantastic on and off the green. We will just keep plodding along and try to apply ourselves in what I believe is the correct manner as a team. At this stage I couldn’t ask for anymore off anyone in and around the group but we are aware it is a long old season so let’s see where we are come September.” Dale Downes was best winner 9 while Doug Edwards’ best win of 12 wasn’t enough for Meole Brace. Newport are still top though as they beat Ifton 11-3. There were three joint best winners, Tom Langford, Kevin Keary and Pete Farmer all 8. Leighton Roberts was best winner for the Welsh side, winning 14 in a good result for them given past history. Sir John Bayley also won 11-3 at home to Hanmer, with Ant Bracken leading the way 8 for his third single figure win of the month, with Liam Jones replying for the visitors 11.

Castlefields edged out Bylet by one shot to win 10-6 there and earn their second away win of the season and please skipper Alan Peach. “Great result on Friday at Bylet as we just got over the line with the aggregate. Bylet put up a great fight and have some good players, but I must congratulate our team who have won away again. Michael Beer was immaculate in his performance at number 1. Praise also for Keith Wall who found himself 11-1 down but fought hard to get a very respectful 16.” Mark Taylor was best winner for the Fields 10 with Scott Harries best for the home side 8. St Georges got another great away result with 6 winners, considering that Burway’s 6 winners restricted the Dragons to just 37 chalks. Joint captain Ian Gaut commented on a “weird game. Finished before 9.30 due to some freaky scores but another steady away performance with Clay Flattley and Andy Morgan the pick of the perforamnces.” Duncan Pressley and Wayne Rogers both won 2 to be the best of five single figure winners for the Ludlow side, while the Telford team had two single winners themselves, Nigel Evans the best of them 7. Bowring will also be happy with their 5 at Chester Road, just dipping out by 6 on the aggregate. New captain Rich Lawson led the way winning 8 along with Ash Gregory, while Andy Smith’s best win of 4 helped the home side get the aggregate.

Hanwood hammered Wem 12-2 to keep their good home form up. Joint captain Mark Shore commented on”another solid home display from the lads. Hard to single out any one performance but Craig Wilson and Ash Wellings both winning 5 (to be best winner) were the best cards and performances to match the results. Scott Thomas dug in and rallied from behind to win for Wem.” Pete Bound was the other winner for Wem, winning 10.

Newport are top of the table by two points to Wrockwardine Wood and another two points to Sir John Bayley. Ifton are bottom again by three points to Bylet and Bowring. Five players remain unbeaten from the full number of games, with Pete Farmer just ahead on aggregate, with only 9 chalks separating them all. Ant Bracken looks well placed to win the May Player of the Month award with three single figure wins this month.
