Bylet first whitewash, Wem win away, Fields win again

Bylet earned their first ever whitewash in the history of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League as they defeated Hanmer 14-0 in Gameweek 20. There were some close calls with 5 Hanmer players getting 18 or more, but Scott Harries was delighted. “Well, you don’t get any better than our result Friday. First time ever the Bylet have won 14-0 in the Premier League so me and the lads we’re over the moon with that and our performance. Takes some doing at any level never mind in the Shropshire Prem, especially with how strong the league is now. The result was even more better as the green was under water at 4 p.m., so after weeks of it screaming it was very heavy and just about playable in the end. It wasn’t plain sailing though. Our 1st 4 was it’s usual machine best at home but after then we scrambled 6 of the next 8 cards to 17 or above. It was obviously just our night. I just want to say hard luck to Hanmer because they could easily of got 3-4 really but fair play to their lads, they kept supporting right until the end and also came round the town for plenty of drinks before heading home on their minibus. So all credit to them, they were in good spirits and good luck to them for the rest of the season and if they are involved in the playoff.” Rob Perry was best winner 6, a result that moves Bylet up to 10th, just three points off the top half. Wem earned their first away win for two years as they won 13-3, their biggest away win since 2000 when they won 11-3 at Bylet. Captain Scott Thomas said “obviously we were very pleased with Friday’s result. Our away form has been really good all season, and to be honest I’m amazed that we hadn’t won an away game until Friday. Having said that, it could have easily gone the other was as we won pretty much every close game. The weather did us a favour so we knew we had a fighting chance against a good Meole side. I have to give credit to my team though, as we battled from start to finish, played positive bowls and were loud throughout the entire game. Hopefully we can maintain this form until the end of the season.” Connor Whitehall was their best winner 10, while Mark Thomas and Andy Wigginton were best winners for the home side 15.

Castlefields drew level with Newport at the top of the table as they won their 7th consecutive game with a 10-6 at Burway. Skipper Alan Peach commented on “a great team performance started by the ever ready Michael Beer who recorded a single figure win (5 to be best winner). 2 all after 4 but could have been 3/1 with Jon Palmer leading 20/14 but not scoring again. We only had one winner in the middle with Adie Rowe in fine form from a very slow start to the season. 3 winners at the back to claim the agg and the win. The team are really playing well, the atmosphere and togetherness is brilliant. Lets hope it continues!” Wayne Rogers was best winner 4 for the Ludlow side. Newport will be happy with getting 4 at Hanwood being such a tough place to go. Pete Farmer continued his remarkable season with yet another win 21-11, the best of the 4. The home side’s best winner was Glyn Wellings 6, continuing his great season. Sir John Bayley are also in the thick of it after beating Ifton 12-2 at home. Spencer Clarke was best winner 5, with Dave Bond best winner for the visitors 17. Wrockwardine Wood have dropped down to 5th after getting 4 at Chester Road. Ian Mcdonald and Andy Moss were best winners for the home side 7, with Liam Stevens best for the visitors 12. St Georges defeated Bowring 11-3 to solidify 6th place. Clay Flattley was best winner 8, with Roy Bradburn best winner 7 for the visitors.

Newport are level with Castlefields at the top of the table, with Sir John Bayley a further three behind. Hanmer are now 27 behind Chester Road, and know, barring some very big wins, they will be finishing bottom. Pete Farmer leads by 2 wins at the top of the League Averages.
