Greg Smith won a third Midland Masters title after defeating Conor Chamberlain 18 in the final at Stretton BC. It was another imperious day for the Hanwood bowler, beating Paul Lamb 10 in the Semi Finals and David Ord 9 in the Quarter Finals. He had defeated Mark Burdett 9 and Dan Taylor of Wrockwardine Wood 12 in the first two rounds as well, Dan having beaten Nick Tideswell 11 first game. Dan’s team mate Stuart Rutter reached the Quarter Finals after getting past Shane Day 15, Andy Booth 8, Gary Owen 17 and then losing out to Conor 15. Sir John Bayley’s Gordon Hawkins also reached the Quarters before dipping out to Mick Ledwidge 14, having beaten Andy Ferris 15, Jon Lyttle of Meole Brace 17, having received a walkover first game, and Philip May 16. His team mate Paul Evans beat Mark Taylor of Castlefields 8 first round as several others just won one match. St Georges duo Clay Flattley and Lewis Scott beat Tyler Dewis 7 and Andy Runham 19 respectively, while Bowring pair Jamie King and Josh Bradburn defeated Phil Clapham 13 and Ian Atherton 18. Newport captain Sam Millward got past Carl Wilkins 16 1st round.
