Mike Hinton Pairs 2023

Jamie King and Scott Harries won the 2023 Mike Hinton Pairs to add to their previous success in the County Doubles. They came out on top of 24 pairs, the best entry since 2005 when 33 toom part. They defeated Kiah Roberts and Wayne Rogers in the final, trailing 4-0 early on before going 8-4 and then 16-5 up after a full house. Kiah and Wayne scored two doubles but Scott and Jamie then ran out. In the Semi Finals Scott and Jamie ran out from 11-7 down against Will Tyler and Chris Stretch, while Wayne and Kiah got past Chris Worthington and Jen Rogers, going 15-6 up before holding off a fightback after Chris and Jen got back to 17-13 down to win 13.

Quarter Finals

Scott and Jamie were 8-5 down against Matt and Tony Rhodes but then went 14-8 up. They held this advantage to win 13.

Will and Chris raced 16-3 up on Steve Faulkner and Allan Gaut before winning 6.

Kiah and Wayne were 9-0 up on Darren Fielding and Angus Needham, and then after going 16-3 up won 5.

Chris and Jen were 6-3 down against Mark Jones and Steve Bodley before going 12-6 up. They then got pegged back to 16-15 down but won 16.

1st Round

Scott and Jamie were 11-1 up on Josh and Roy Bradburn and then ran out from 14-9 up.

Matt and Tony Rhodes were 8-0 up before extending their lead over Ed Proudlove and Jack Hazeldine to 17-4. Jack and Ed got back to 18-10 down but Matt and Tony ran out.

Will and Chris had an even start with Ange and Martin Gaut but then went 14-9 up. Ange and Martin got back to trail 18-17 but a three saw Will and Chris home.

Allan and Steve were 18-6 up on Andy Garbett and Gavin Bridge and won 11.

Mark and Steve were 4 across but then went 14-4 up on Tracy Bound and Jane Archer, and won 9.

Chris and Jenny raced 10-0 up on Stuart Clee and Sally King but Stuart and Sally got back to trail 17-15. However Chris and Jenny ran out.

Kiah and Wayne went 17-6 up on Mike Wainwright and Pete Farmer, but then Mike and Pete fought back to 19 across. However Kiah and Wayne got the two they needed.

Angus and Darren were 9-4 down early on against Simon Rhodes and Jamie Taylor. But they went 15-10 up and held this advantage to win 14.

Prelims

Scott and Jamie raced 15-2 up on Ayden Smith and Aaron King, and despite Ayden and Aaron getting back to trail 17-10, they won 11.

Josh and Roy went 16-3 up from 3-1 down, but Jamie and Will Brookes got back to 15-19, but Josh and Roy scored two singles.

Matt and Tony were 14-0 up on Helen Clee and Nat Connor, and kept this lead to win 8.

Ed and Jack were 5-1 down against Stu Rutter and Pete Grimston, but then went 13-5 up. Stu and Pete got back to trail 18-14 before Ed and Jack won 16.

Will and Chris were 12-4 up on Sonya Lucas and Ali Cotton, and then went 18-8 up. Sonya and Ali got back to 19-14 down but then Will and Chris got the two they needed.

Ange and Martin went 17-8 up on John and Rob Clarke before the game was levelled at 17 across. However Ange and Martin then ran out.

Allan and Steve had a close game with Paul and Owen Evans before going 18-11 up. Paul and Owen got back to 20-18 down but Allan and Steve got the one they needed.

Andy and Gavin had a close game with last year’s winner Alex Jones and Tom Roden before leading 14-11. From 18 across they managed to run out.
