Castlefields make great start with narrow away win
Castlefields made a great start to their 2015 season with an eye catching 9-5 win at former champions Chester Road. Clay Flattley’s MVP 21-9 win on his return to Castlefields and former Chester Road player Andy Duckett’s 21-11 win was vital in a 5 shot win, despite Mark Burden’s 21-6 win for the hosts earning him the MVP award.
Another former champion grabbed an away win as St Georges won 9-5 at Hadley USC. St Georges always led after Dave King’s MVP 21-10 win over brother Phil and after taking the whole of the middle four they had secured the win despite Hadley taking three of the back four led by John Price’s 21-10 win and MVP Rob Burroughs’ narrow 21-19 win.
Wrockwardine Wood were inspirationally led by new captain Stuart Clee after they beat Sir John Bayley 8-6 and by 6 shots. Stuart found himself 19-5 down against Aaron Tapper but won 20 to turn the game on its head, earning him the MVP award. The three Staffordshire debutants all won with Gordon Hawkins MVP and Chris Ward one of the best winners in a night of close games. Stuart Rutter was the best for the hosts winning 21-13.
Bowring got an impressive 5 points at Meole Brace. They actually led 3-1 after Rich Lawson’s MVP 21-9 win and narrow wins for Rob Roden and John Cooke but Meole fought back taking the whole of the middle four with Will Tarrell leading with a 21-7 win, but Bowring shared the back four with Mark Taylor and Dave Lloyd winning to 15 and 17 respectively and Mark Thomas earning the MVP award winning 21-9 at number 12.
Wem USC had a biggest win of the night and find themselves top of the table after a 11-3 win against Archibald Worthington. It could have even better for them with a 20 and 2 19 losers yet Archie went close to taking more with a 20 and 2 18 losers. Chris Brettell took the best win and MVP with a 21-7 and Dave Ridgeway narrowly beat home debutant Gavin Tommy to earn the MVP award for the visitors. Former captain John Paddington and young Jack Hewitt earned vital away wins for the visitors.
Burway will happy with their 5 points after a long trip to Ifton. The returning Len Lewis earned the MVP award and Josh Partridge scored an impressive win on his return against home captain Dickie Jones. Craig Griffiths on his return to Ifton was the best winner. Adam Price won the MVP for the home team, whilst Duncan Pressley earned the best win for the visitors with a 21-14.
