Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowls League
Two teams took part in the 2019 Playoffs; Whitchurch League champions Adderley and Tanners Shropshire champions Telepost. Chester Road finished bottom of the league and so the winner of the pre-playoff would play them for a place in the 2020 Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League.
Pre-Playoff
Adderley won the pre-playoff last night to earn a crack at Salop Leisure Premier Bowling League side Chester Road tonight. They roared out of the blocks as Tom Hardy won 7 in the corners and Ian Howell won 8 to go 27 up. Hayden Lewis was the only card up for Telepost in the front, but only won 14 from 19-9 up as Dave Bamford rallied. Gary Whitehall and Gary Neal had the game of the night which Whitehall led throughout at 11-4 and 20-14, before Neal staged a comeback to get back to 19. So after four Adderley led by 22.
Into the middle and apart from James Mammone who went 9-1 and 19-8 up on Alan Boulton the other three cards were close. Alan got back to 14 to help Adderley’s cause, Nigel Parsonage winning 17 after a close game with Lee Barker. Sam O’Nions had a good end to his game to win 17, while Dan Williams seemed to be on for an age and was unable to get away from Jack Hazeldine till the end to win 16. This meant Telepost only now trailed by 10.
The first three games were close to coming off after Dan had done so. Danny Wornell was down early doors before he got down an edge to go 16-12 up. Dan Hazeldine got back in and got back to 18, while Simon Lewis was a few up at one time against Alex Lockett over the middle before Alex played very well to get back in and won 20. Shaun Bould had a close game with Tony Sherratt which Shaun edged 20. This meant that Adderley led by 7, and Darren Palin was 9-8 up on Sam Cartwright, and needed to score 15 to win the game. Sam went over the middle and was playing better and better and had two bowls within a foot at 14-9 up. Darren struck, hit both bowls, and somehow counted one to make it 10-14 instead of 16-9. Sam did get back in and was 16-12 up laying two before Darren rested the inside of his bowl to mean that Sam had to run out to win. But Darren got one, and then another single, and the job was done despite Sam winning 19.

Playoff
Chester Road retained their Premier League status after being giving a scare by Adderley on a very wet Prees new green. They only won by 9 in the end, and trailed after the first four before their experience got them through the game.
In the first four and Adderley had the better of the early stages. Ian Howell was holding Martin Lloyd before he found a 30m mark and won 14 on it to give Adderley a great start, and earn him man of the match. Tom Hardy was a few up on Ian McDonald before Ian got back into the game and won 18. Paul Latham went 4/5 up down the edge before Dave Bamford got to 16. The other game saw Alex Hassall and Mark Holland have a close game throughout which Alex won 18. This meant Adderley led by 2.
The middle four saw Gary Whitehall and Gary Beff have a reasonably close game before Gary got on a mark late on to win 14. Paul Griffiths raced 11-2 up before Jack Hazeldine battled back to 13-8 down. But Paul then got the block back and won 11, which gave Chester Road a good lead. Alan Boulton though was doing well in the corners versus Paul Williams, and won 13 to bring Adderley back into it. Nigel Parsonage and Andy Smith had a close game throughout which was on the green for a long time, which Nigel won 18 to mean Adderley were just 4 behind.
The back four saw Andy Moss race 11-0 up on a long mark before Alex Lockett started to get back into the game at 13-8 down. But Andy maintained that lead to win 16. Dan Hazeldine injured himself early on but despite this had a very good game with Steve Rogers. He went up to the crown and back early on before Steve tried going long and then short. Steve was 4/5 up at the end and despite Dan trying to get back into the game Steve held on to win 16 and mean Chester Road led by 14. It wasn’t all over though, as Tony Sherratt was 16-11 up against Andrew Davies, and Darren Palin 9-8 up on Chris Nicholson. Andrew Davies got back to 16 across, and with Chris holding his own with Darren, it meant that once Andrew got to 18 it meant the match was over. Tony won 18, and Darren 19, to mean that Chester Road won by 9 overall.
Chester Road captain Paul Fowles was a relieved captain after coming through the Playoff final by just 9 chalks against Adderley. He said “it was the most important game ever for our club. We played well on a wet green and just got home. Fair play to Adderley, they pushed us all the way in a game played in a good competitive and sporting way with such a lot at stake.”
