Week 16 Review

Super six for Ifton, Wrockwardine win big, Bayley extend lead

Ifton scored a super six at Chester Road in week 16 of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League. It meant Chester Road only closed the gap on them by two points at the bottom. Captain Dickie Jones was “happy with 6 winners but being 5-3 and 14 up on agg I feel it was a missed opportunity to have registered our first away win.” Paul Martin was their best winner 8, with Paul Latham, Andrew Davies and Chris Nicholson all best winners for the home side 9. Ifton are level with Hanmer now though after they just got 3 winners at Burway. Lee Peate was their best winner 12, with Kiah Roberts best winner 2 for the home side, who are impressing at home now. Wrockwardine Wood went above Meole Brace into 6th after beating them 12-2. Skipper Rob Jones said it was “a really good home performance from the lads Friday, against an improving Meole side. The green was the quickest it has been all year, and the lads adapted really well.” Steve Broome was their best winner 8, with Scott Moseley’s 17 win best for Meole. Hanwood matched that win as they defeated Wem USC. Phil Lyttle and Wayne Phillips were best winners 8 for them, while Fred Bailey and Chris Brettell were the winners for the away side 18.

Sir John Bayley extended their lead at the top of the table by winning 12-2 over Highley. Paul Evans was their best card 3, with Dave East winning his 13th consecutive game 21-9 to be Highley’s best winner. Newport lost further ground but will be happy with their 10-4 win over Castlefields. Russ Pegram was their best winner 3, with Rich Goddard best for the Champions 6. St Georges also lost ground as they defeated Bylet 9-5. Mike Wainwright was their best winner 5, with the returning Scott Harries best for the Bridgnorth side 9.

Sir John Bayley are now 13 ahead of Newport, who are another point ahead of St Georges. Chester Road are 7 behind Ifton and Hanmer at the bottom. Dave East is still leading the League Averages and has 13 consecutive wins now.
