Top four all clash, fifth place face tough away, North Shropshire Derby
The top four all clash in week 19 of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Leaders Sir John Bayley travel to second placed Castlefields and third placed Newport host fourth placed St Georges. Castlefields skipper Alan Peach says “we entertain the top of the league Sir John Bayley and it’s going to be a tough game with them being top of the league. I’m sure I won’t be there myself so Graham Rogers will take over the running of the team. The players should not need any motivating for this one, any sort of win will be perfect.” Newport and St Georges have dropped off the pace and will want to rediscover their early season form in what promises to be a keenly fought clash given their meetings in the KGJ Insurance County Cup so far this season. Hanwood in 5th will hope to take advantage as they travel to a Bylet side who have suffered back to back home defeats. Joint captain Mark Shore knows it is a “tough trip to Bylet who have had a good season so far. We would like to push them to see what we can get from them. We have won there before so you never know.”
Chester Road are bottom and travel to Meole Brace where they could do with an away win to try and kick start any survival bid. Meole though are in form and this is the last chance to stake places for the County Cup Final the week after. Ifton are second bottom and will look for a home win over Wem USC. Captain Dickie Jones says “any win will be ok, Wem know our green well and have been good on their travels this season.” Wem have picked up recently and could still get a top half finish with a good ending to the season. Wrockwardine Wood are in 6th at the moment and will look for a good win over Burway, who have picked up since the second half of the season started. Hanmer still aren’t out of trouble yet and will look to exploit Highley’s lack of green knowledge, which Highley showed at Hanwood last week. But they have won at the three other North Shropshire greens so far this season.
