Road face Dragons test, Wem take on Newport, Fields must win
Bottom placed Chester Road face a tough test in week 22 of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League. They take on St. Georges knowing they must win if they are to have a chance of moving off there. Captain Paul Fowles says they are “expecting a very tough game as they play our green well. We can only do our best we need to win if we are to have any chance of not being bottom.” St Georges need the points themselves to try and gain a top three finish. Hanwood overtook them in 4th and they will look to stay there with a home win over Wrockwardine Wood. The Wrockites though have been playing well lately and sit in 6th place, a position they will want to keep.
The league leaders Sir John Bayley host Burway looking to extend their lead at the top against a team struggling for form recently. Castlefields in second face a trip to the unknown in Highley. They had a tasty clash when they first met and it is sure to be a fiercely contested game. Highley have a top half finish in their sights while the away side know they have to win to have any chance of retaining their title. Fields skipper Alan Peach says it is “another tough game tomorrow. I have never seen the green never mind played it. I’m not sure if many of our team have seen it. It has been a difficult season for us this year possibly not reaching the standards of last season. But we will try and do our best against a team who played quite well at our place. We can try fend off any challengers for second place in the league.” Newport in 3rd travel to Wem USC, a green they usually do well on. Wem have been up and down this season but can still get a top half finish. Ifton have climbed to 12th and know home wins will mean they stay away from trouble. They host Meole Brace who are in 8th and can still finish in the top half. Bylet travel to Hanmer on the back of a winless run of 7 and needing to arrest that slide if they are to stay away from a relegation battle. Hanmer have dropped to second bottom so aren’t exactly safe themselves yet.
