St Georges and Newport lock horns again in the Semi Finals of the BowlsTraders Pool A looking to progress to the final on Friday 11th October. These teams have already clashed twice in the County Cup, but hopefully a replay won’t be needed tonight. St Georges joint skipper Tony Rhodes says it is a “ tough game. I hear they have a strong 8 out so up against it but we’ll be committed again and see how the results go. Not at full strength but then we have a good squad. The other tie is on Thursday and sees Wem USC take on Wrockwardine Wood at Chester Road. Both clubs haven’t been in the final of this competition much, Wem did last year, 20 years after their first, while the Wrockites have never done so but have won the Pool B.

Highley and Bylet clash in a South Shropshire Derby match at Sir John Bayley. Bylet last made the final in 2010 while this is Highley’s first campaign in this competition. Joint skipper Stu Gittings says “we are looking forward to a hard battle against a Bylet side which have some really good players of which most are or have been team mates with most of our lads. A bit of local rivalry and bragging rights to the winners not to mention the final night so may the best looking team win!” The other Semi Final sees record winners Ifton take on a Chester Road side who haven’t made the final of this competition before, but have done so in the Pool A. Chester Road have bigger fish to fry on Friday in the Play off final, but will want to keep their winning run going and confidence. Ifton skipper Dickie Jones says it “should be a close match. We have most of our players available and hopefully make finals night again.” Ifton have made the last three Pool B finals, and will look to keep that proud record up again.
