The Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League returned after 20 months of no action with 12 teams competing in a 10-a-side league, the first time the league has ever reduced its team size, as well as the first ever women to compete in the league.
Hanwood are the early leaders as they won 12-2 at Highley. Rich Lawson was best winner for them 6, while home captain Stuart Gittings was best 12. Bylet are just behind them as they scored an 11-3 win at Meole Brace with Jamie Taylor leading the way 9, and Will Tarrell best for the home side 8. Champions Sir John Bayley also had an away win at Wem USC 10-4 as Kane Beaman led the way 5. Colin Smith was best for the home side 14. Castlefields beat Ifton 11-1, with Callum Wraight continuing his early season form being best winner 6. Leighton Roberts was the winner for the visitors 8, despite half of their team made up of Joneses! St Georges got bragging rights in their derby against Wrockwardine Wood 8-4, Ian Gaut best winner 7 and current League Merit holder Liam Stevens best winner 3 for the home and away sides respectively. The most notable winner of the night was Sonya Lucas 19, becoming the first ever woman to win a match in our league, and will definitely not be the last!
Chester Road and Hanmer had their game called off because of a waterlogged green. A new date will be announced in due course.
