Mick is new County Deputy President

We have our first Deputy County President since Alan Mayhew in 2009 as we nominated our former President Mick Jones at the 2022 SCGBA AGM. We would like to congratulate Mick and wish him all the best in the role.

Below are our nominating speeches from League Treasurer Rob Burroughs and Secretary Martin Gaut.

Good evening Ladies & Gentleman, County Officials and Past Presidents, my name is Rob Burroughs and I am the treasurer and acting Chairman amongst other roles in the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League. I would like to nominate Mick Jones to be Shropshire Crown Green Bowling Association Deputy President for 2022. We believe Mick will be a great Deputy President for the county and represent our league with pride. Mick has played in our league since its inception back in 1994, representing St Georges until 2010 and then Newport since. During this time he has been one of the most successful bowlers and captains in the league, winning the title 5 times with each club, captaining St Georges four of those times. He has won 6 Alan Mayhew Trophies and 5 times the Pool A competition within our league. Individually he has also won the Most Consecutive Wins and Mike Hinton Pairs in his time playing in the league. More recently he has taken on official roles within the league. He was Chairman for three years, and then President for another three years.

It is my pleasure to formally nominate and propose Mick Jones for the role of SCGBA Deputy President.

Rob Burroughs, SPBL Treasurer.

Good evening Ladies & Gentleman, County Officials and Past Presidents, my name is Martin Gaut and I am the secretary and Competitions Secretary of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League. I would like to second Rob’s nomination of Mick Jones for County Deputy Presidency for 2022. Mick has been an asset to the league the last few years and has given us experience when me and Rob took up our roles back in 2015. Mick himself has been bowling a long time, he started in 1958 with Johnny Hancocks starting him off at a very young age. He has also played at Battlefield in addition to  St Georges and Newport in this county. One of his highlights of his bowling career was winning the Meole Open, and has won many other single and double competitions including the County Handicap. He is currently a Senior County Selector.

It is my pleasure to second the nomination and proposal of Mick Jones for the role of SCGBA Deputy President.

Martin Gaut, SPBL Secretary.
