Champs face tough test, two former winners meet, big games at bottom
The Champions face a tough test in week 4 of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League as they travel to Hanwood. This game has been postponed in recent years due to a waterlogged green, but with the weather set to be dry there is no concern this year about the game being off. Hanwood have enjoyed a good start to the season, so joint captain Mark Shore is “looking forward to the visit of the champions which should be a great game. Thankfully there’s no rain forecast! Any sort of win for us will be a great result as the Bayley possess great players throughout.” The Bayley have had a good start to the season, and know this one of their toughest tests they will have this season. Two former winners of the league meet as Castlefields travel to St Georges. The Fields joint captain Adam Jones says “we have been really pleased with our start to the season. A season of transition for the team so we are pleased with how everyone in the squad has contributed in all of the games. Look forward to the challenge of St. Georges who have strengthened well and started well. They will be a tough test for us and we will as always be trying our best to get as many points as possible.” St Georges have started well and will look for a repeat of their last home result, a 11-3 win over reigning champions the Bayley. Wrockwardine Wood still sit top and travel to bottom placed Wem USC in a game they will be thinking they can win given their form. But Wem skipper Derek Wright is positive as “we face Wrockwardine in the first of two home games with a strenghtened squad, leaving the captain with headaches.”
There are some key games near the bottom of the table as 3 points separate just 7 teams. Newport host Highley while Ifton play Chester Road, with all four teams knowing that points against their rivals are critical, even at this early stage, especially given the two away sides have already lost a home game. Bylet play Burway and Hanmer take on Meole Brace with both teams looking to close the gap to their visitors above them, but both travelling side will be confident after good home wins the week before.
