Big games at the bottom, Shrewsbury derby
There are some big games already at the bottom of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Chester Road take on Bylet with both teams already having lost a home game. Chester Road captain Gary Beff knows it is an “important home game for us against a team next to us in the league and on the same points. Hoping for a good performance and a solid home win.” Wem USC find themselves bottom and know they must bounce back from their home loss last week against Wrockwardine Wood. Skipper Derek Wright says “we face Newport following a home defeat against the impressive Wrockites. We make one change with Andy Marshall coming back in.” Newport will be buoyed by a good home win over Highley from last week, with Highley facing a tough test at home to St Georges, who themselves will want to bounce back from a home defeat last Friday. Highley skipper Stuart Gittings knows “they are a quality team and it will be a tough hard fought match. We have a couple away and a couple who are coming in to help us out but we are getting a more settled 12 now and looking to be consistently more competitive.
Our green is in fantastic condition and a pleasure to bowl so away teams will enjoy if not the drive!
We have to be a better home side and we will stay up for sure.”
Wrockwardine Wood are flying and will look to keep up the momentum at home to Ifton, who don’t normally have a good record at that green, but did have a good home win last week. Burway will be looking for a consecutive away win when they travel to Meole Brace, but Meole come off an impressive home win against Bylet a couple of weeks ago. Sir John Bayley will look for a good home win to move up the table after a couple of tough away games this season already. They play Hanmer who will have some experience of the Bayley green from their recent Barlows Fire & Security Alan Mayhew Trophy game. There is a Shrewsbury derby between Castlefields and Hanwood, with both teams having had a good start and sitting in the top three, so a good result for either will continue their early momentum to this campaign.
