Wrockites win again, Meole earn super six, Bylet & Hanmer shock
Wrockwardine Wood continued their winning run as they won 11-5 at Newport in week 6 of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Stand in skipper Rob Jones said it was a “great result against a very capable Newport team on Friday. Team spirit, belief and atmosphere is currently very good, and the squad is much deeper and more capable than we have had for a long time. All thoughts now on our next game and the county cup.” Best winner for them was Sally King 5, with Phil Emery best for the home side 7. It was even beter for the Wrockties as the two teams below them both lost away. The Champions Sir John Bayley lost 9-5 at Bylet and Castlefields lost 10-4 at Hanmer. It was a big result for Bylet to kickstart their season as Matt Ealey and captain Scott Harries led by example winning 21-8, with Alex Jones replying for the Champions 11. Hanmer had a fine win to keep up their good home start, with captain Mike Gilpin saying it was a “great result for us on Friday against a strong Castlefields side. I felt we played well from 1 to 12 so don’t really want to single anyone out although it was nice to see Joe Langford get his first win in the league fighting back from 17-11 down to get over the line.” Graham Bennett was best winner 3 for them, with Adie Rowe best for the away side 14.
Meole Brace got a super six winners at Hanwood to continue their fine start to the season. Skipper Mark Thomas says “it was a good game and we won most of the close encounters. Chris Jones and Tracey Bound played well in the front to keep us even and we led with three winning in the middle. Hanwood answered with three of their own at the back with our only winner being Chris Stretch who battled well to beat an impressive Phil Talbot.” Craig Wilson was best winner 16, with Gary Neal best for the home side 6. Burway continued their good form with a 10-4 home win over Chester Road, Kiah Roberts best winner 11 with Martin Lloyd best for the away side 13. Ifton won by the same score over Highley with Geraint Williams leading the way winning 8, and Phil Chester leading for the visitors with his 10 win. St Georges defeated Wem USC 11-3 despite missing a few players. Martin Gaut was best winner 8 for the Dragons, with Gareth Davies best for Wem by the same score.
Wrockwardine Wood now lead by 13 points at the top of the table, with Highley a point adrift of Wem USC at the bottom. There are now four players that have won 6 out of 6, with Jamie King still leading them on aggregate.
