Top 3 face tough trips, big game at bottom
The top 3 are all away in week 18 of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Clear leaders Wrockwardine Wood travel to Ifton in a dress rehearsal for the KGJ Insurance County Cup Final in two weeks. Skipper Rob Jones said “with nine games to go, we approach Ifton away like any other away game remaining on the run in, let’s try and tip in as many points as we can and see where that leaves us at 10pm. We’ve known for a few weeks that it’s all about game management from here.” 2nd placed Castlefields face a short trip to Hanwood, who are in 4th place at the moment and looking for a top 3 place. Joint captain Mark Shore knows it is a “big game against our local rivals. It’s always a well fought game. Again we are missing a few players for this one so any win will be a great result for us.” 3rd placed Sir John Bayley travel to Hanmer who are one of the few teams in the league unbeaten at home. Hanmer captain Mike Gilpin says “after a much improved away result last week at Meole Brace we return to Hanmer for a tough encounter against a very strong SJB side. Robin Bennett returns which will be a boost for us as we look to maintain our 100% home record and put further distance between us and those below. Dare I say maybe even start to look up the table.” St Georges will look to take advantage of those having tough games above as they host a Highley side reeling from a home loss to Newport last week. Bylet are just below Highley and host Chester Road who are just above Highley, with both teams knowing this is a big game in their season. Wem USC aren’t completely out of trouble yet and travel to Newport, who will be full of confidence after an amazing win at Highley last week. Burway host Meole Brace with both teams very much looking at a top 6 finish after good seasons so far.
