Top Four at home, Highley look for home win, Two forms team meet
The top four are all at home in week 21 of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Runaway leaders Wrockwardine Wood are only a few games away from clinching their maiden title and host the Bylet who will be desperate for the points at the bottom of the table. 2nd placed Castlefields will be wanting to make sure they finish as runners-up and play Chester Road who should be safe after some good results but will want to make sure they stay clear of any trouble. 3rd placed Sir John Bayley take on Meole Brace who have had a couple of poor results recently while the Bayley had a fine away win last week. St Georges take on Hanmer who will look to bounce back from last week’s first home loss of the season, with the Dragons hoping to improve on their 9-5 success last week at home. Hanwood are just behind the Bayley and Dragons and travel to Wem USC knowing a win is needed to try and get a top 3 spot. Hanwood joint skipper Ash Wellings says “we’re going to kepp trying to get positive results and get as high up the league as we can. Had a few good away performances lately so hoping to keep that going.” Wem though need a win being joint bottom of the table after just getting 4 winners in their last two games. Highley share bottom spot and host Burway knowing they need a win after a couple of home losses recently. Skipper Stu Gittings said “after a positive result last week we are looking forward to Burway’s visit. We need to get a good result so we can push on and avoid the playoffs. Would expect Highley to be a bit greener. We have a couple missing and a couple of guys back, Frank Leek being one so here’s to a good game with no rain and hopefully a win!” Two inform teams meet as KGJ Insurance County Cup winners Ifton travel to Newport, with both teams going from being at the bottom to looking at a top 6 finish. Newport skipper Ayden Smith says “knowing that Ifton won the County Cup last weekend against the top performing team in the league by a far stretch, we know we have a tough game. We have 2/3 platers missing which isn’t ideal but we do have the home advantage. A win tomorrow night in any fashion is what we are after.”
