Bottom side Bylet are looking for home comforts in week 24 of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League with the two teams directly above them both away. It won’t be an easy task though, they are hosting a St Georges side looking for 2nd place and their best finish since 2010. Highley are 7 points above them after a good home win last week against Chester Road and travel to another side looking for the runners-up spot, Sir John Bayley. Captain Stu Gittings said “A good result for us last week and a much needed win. Chester Road were a good team and their first four bowled well with Dave East and Gary Beff having a good match with Dave getting out at the end. Our middle four performed well and having 3 winners in there is unusual for us with Jacob Ash bowling really well and Jon Heath producing a wonder bowl with his last to win. Back four went on and managed to see the match out. On to the Bayley this week and hopefully a good performance.” Wem USC make the short trip to North Shropshire rivals Hanmer, hoping green knowledge will help them, but Hanmer still need a home win just to make sure of safety. Castlefields are currently in 2nd and make the short trip to rivals Meole Brace, who have lost their last 6 games. Meole captain Mark Thomas says “the visit of Castlefields is always a game that needs no extra motivation, they want points to secure second place. We are playing for pride only but we will do our best to get a decent result.” Hanwood host an in form Ifton with Ifton knowing a top 5 spot could be within grasp if they can continue that form. Skipper Dickie Jones says “it will be a tough game against Hanwood who bowl their green well. Our form is very good at the moment so hopefully it continues.” Burway know two good home wins should earn their first ever top half finish, and host Newport who are just 4 points below them. Chester Road host the Champions Wrockwardine Wood with the Wrockites looking to break more records, a win there will break the away wins record and go someway to breaking the points record. Chester Road captain Gary Beff says “we’ve been on a really good run so looking forward to challenging ourselves against the new Champions.”
