Bylet earn big win, Ifton continue form, Bayley move 2nd
Bylet earned a big win in week 24 as they defeated St Georges 10-4 in week 24 of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Spokeswoman Cheryl Caswell said “it was a much needed home win against a really strong St Georges team. We knew it was a must win game and we got off to a perfect start, taking the first four games with some strong performances. I think from then on, the team battled really well to contain the dragons and ensure we got a good result. Josh Bradburn was superb all night to be best winner for St Georges (9) and I’m told that Martin Gaut and Dan Davies had one of the best games on the night.” Best winner for the Bylet was captain Scott Harries 5. They are now a point above Highley after they just got 2 winners at Sir John Bayley, who are now in 2nd place. Scott Simpson was their best winner 4, with Sean Lockley best for the visitors 14. Wem USC are 3 points above bottom placed Highley after getting 4 winners at Hanmer. Best winner for them was ex-Hanmer players Mel Jenkins 13, as Matt Beeston was best for the home side 10 who all but sealed another season in this league.
Castlefields dropped from 2nd to 3rd as they got 5 winners at Meole Brace. Best winner was the improving James Mammone 14, with Mark Thomas best for the home side 7. Hanwood managed an incredible comeback to earn a draw against the in-form Ifton. Ifton skipper Dickie Jones says “another good performance that saw us 3-1 up and then 6-2 and 43 up on agg. But Hanwood staged a superb back four performance to level the game in what was a thrilling Premier League match.” Gary Neal led the fightback with a 21-5 win, with Dicky himself producing an incredible best win of 2. Chester Road produced a great performance to defeat the Champions Wrockwardine Wood 9-5. Skipper Gary Beff commented on a “fantastic team performance and another great result against a top team. Very proud of not just last night’s result but on a superb second half of the season.” Wrockties captain Rob Jones gave “full credit to Chester Road, they played their green exceptionally well, at 3-1 and 5-2 down we were struggling to stay in it. Then two big cards from Dan Taylor (best winner 7) & Sally King and we were right back in it with a shout of the agg. But no complaints, Chester Rd were good value for the win and we dipped out by 3. If we are going to set a new away win record, we will have to do it the hard way.” Best winner for the Roaders was Andy Smith 8. Burway have given themselves a 10 point cushion in 7th after defeating Newport 10-4. Wayne Rogers was best winner 4 with Cody Everitt best for the visitors 8.
Wrockwardine Wood are 53 ahead of Sir John Bayley, who are a point ahead of Castlefields. Highley are 1 point off the Bylet and 3 behind Wem USC. Mike Beer didn’t play on Friday, so is one win ahead of Alex Jones now, but he has won the Most Consecutive Wins award after Stuart Rutter didn’t play himself.
