Barlows Fire & Security Alan Mayhew Trophy Semi Final Previews

The semi finals of the two Barlows Fire & Security Alan Mayhew Trophy take place tonight.

Hanmer v Sir John Bayley

Hanmer look to make history and make the final for the first time while Sir John Bayley are aiming to reach a consecutive final. Hanmer captain Iuean Pugh is “looking forward to a tough test, we got close to them last year in the Mayhew, so hopefully we can go one better. We know they’re a great team but we definitely have the confidence and belief to win the game. We played them a few weeks back so we know what to expect.” Sir John Bayley captain Dave Lloyd is “looking forward to the semi final against Hanmer, a tough place to go as Wrockwardine found out. Hopefully we can hold our own away and the 6 lads at home do the business.” It should be a close game given only a couple of chalks separated them in the league match, and 4 chalks in the Quarter Final of this competition last season.

Castlefields v St Georges

This is a repeat of last year’s Semi Final, which Castlefields won convincingly to reach another final. St Georges haven’t won this competition in 11 years after winning it 6 times before then. Captain Tony Rhodes knows it will be “tough. Again so many players who plays our green well. We will again be competitive but a tough ask.” Opposition skipper Adie Rowe says the “Semi Finals are always big games. We are very much up for it and will have a strong six home and away as I’m sure St Georges will. We want to carry on our good record in this competition.” They have won this competition 9 times now, including the last 3 seasons, their last loss in this competition being in the Semi Final of 2017 against Hanwood.
