Bylet fight back, Highley earn super six, Roaders earn big home win, Fields edge home
Bylet fought back in week 10 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League to earn an 8-6 win over St Georges. Spokeswoman Cheryl Caswell said “we are delighted with another home win against a strong St Georges side in a game that was close from the beginning but one in which St Georges led for large periods. I think we battled really well all night in a game that we looked like losing and one that last year we would have lost.” Cheryl herself was best winner 11, with Clay Flattley and Pete Farmer best winners 10 for the visitors. Highley earned themselves a super six winners at Hanwood to delight skipper Reece Farr. “We are delighted to get 6 winners on a very fast Hanwood green, our lads battled well in a game that could have gone our way! Hanwood got off to a great start with having 3 winners out of 4, Darren Wellings was unreal against Connor Bray and Jon Heath managed to get out in his game for us. We then went on to have 5 winners out the back 8 with Dave East doing what he does best (to be best winner 7), Danny Statham edging out in what was a superb game against Danny Williams and I beat Rich Lawson 8. In the back four Kris Johnson was excellent against Andy Duckett and Jack Hill played well against Mark Shore. Bruno Heath was very unlucky to dip out 20 in an excellent game.” Jon Mansell was best winner 4 for the home side.
Burway earned another good win this time 11-3 at home to Adderley. Dave Wilding was best winner 10 with Ed Proudlove best for the away side 15. Sir John Bayley also won 11-3 at home to Ifton to continue their excellent form. Stu Rutter was best winner 6, while away captain Dickie Jones was best for them 11. Castlefields also continued their excellent form with a 10-6 win at Hanmer. Skipper Adie Rowe said it was a “fantastic result for us to beat Hanmer when the green was so fast and tricky says a lot for our team spirit. Cracking wins for the cat Russell Pugh, Tom Palmer (best winner 8) and Wayne Rogers. A good competitive match played in the right spirit could have gone either way but very pleased on the night.” Best winner for the home side was Matt Beeston 8. Chester Road had a great home win 12-2 over Wem USC. Captain Gary Beff said it was “an excellent performance and result on what was a very tricky green for both teams.” Martin Lloyd was best winner 6 for them, and Ian Metcalfe was best winner for Wem 8.
Sir John Bayley are 5 ahead of Castlefields, who are 2 clear of Wrockwardine Wood. Wem USC are 8 behind Adderley, who are another 10 adrift of Bylet. Steve Broome is top of the League Averages ahead of four others on 9 wins. Tom Roden and Jon Palmer have both won 9 games.
