Burway shock Fields, Roaders win close game, Hanwood earn good home win
Burway shocked Castlefields in week 12 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League as they beat them 8-6. Burway skipper Jesse James says “we are under no illusions that the Fields were under strength on Friday, but a wins a win and it’s always good to get one over on the top sides. The confidence seems to be oozing as we’ve won four of our last five matches and will be looking to extend that this week.” Best winner was Ben Allen 6, while for the Fields it was Mark Taylor 11. Sir John Bayley and Wrockwardine Wood both took advantage with 11-3 home wins over Wem USC and Ifton respectively. The Bayley’s best winner was Chris Ward 4, with Scott Thomas best for the away side 9. Wrockwardine continued their good home run to please captain Rob Jones. “An excellent 11-3 win against a very good Ifton side, thought we played as well as we have done all year. Keeps us there or there abouts in the mix ahead of an important back to back fixture against new boys Adderley.” Dan Taylor was best winner 6 for them, and Nicky Jones’ 21-10 win best for the Miners. Chester Road had another close game this week, but this time managed to win it by 2 chalks against St Georges, to earn a 9-5 win. Captain Gary Beff was “really pleased with another good home performance and positive result against a really good St Georges team. Having just missed out on the agg away last week it was very satisfying to just nick it this week.” Best winner was Mark Holland 12, with Clay Flattley best for the Dragons 13.
Hanwood earned a good home win over the Bylet 13-1. Skipper Rich Lawson was “really pleased to get a big home win. We managed to win all the close games which made a big difference. A special mention for Phil Talbot who came in at the last minute and bowled exceptionally well to win 12.” Ash Wellings was best winner 4, while Ian Hopson was the winner for the away side, 17. Meole Brace won their first game in 5 games as they beat Adderley 10-4. Will Tarrell and Mark Thomas were best winners 8, while Rich Pullen was best for the visitors 13. Highley had another good away result when getting 5 winners at Hanmer. Captain Reece Farr led the way winning 8, with Tommy Lowndes best winner for the home side 7.
Sir John Bayley are 8 ahead of Wrockwardine Wood, and another 1 ahead of Castlefields. Wem USC are 11 behind Adderley, who are one point behind Bylet. Alex Jones, Sam Millward and Rich Lawson are all on 11 wins, with Alex now having joined Jon Palmer on 10 consecutive wins.
