Adders shock Champs, Highley halt Bayley, Hanwood tame Fields
The top three didn’t get it their own way in week 13 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Adderley defeated the Champions Wrockwardine Wood 9-5. Captain Gary Whitehall said “Friday’s game went pretty much as we thought, we knew the agg would be tight and thankfully for us it just fell in our favour. There was good support and banter going both ways through the match and a few drinks after the game. We look forward to trying to pinch a win or two in the reverse fixture this Wednesday.” Best winner was Ian Howell 5, with Rich Morris best for the visitors 9. Highley halted the Bayley winning streak as they won 8-6. Skipper Reece Farr said “we’re delighted to extend our home winning form with a great win over Bayley on Friday. We got off to a good start and Bayley started to fight back, but our lads at the back battled well to win us the game.” Best winner was Frank Leek 2, while Scott Simpson’s 5 win was best for the Bayley. Hanwood got 7 winners at Castlefields to continue their good recent run. Skipper Rich Lawson was “really pleased to get 7 winners and the way we battled against such a good team. Some great bowling from both sides. Hard to single out any of our winners but Wayne Phillips ran out from 20-11 down and Dan Williams played really well winning 20. For Castlefields, Wayne Rogers was outstanding against Shaun Bould, who also played very well for his 12.” Gary Neal was best winner 6 for the Fields and Glyn Wellings best for the visitors 11.
Hanmer had a fine 12-2 win over the Bylet to conclude a successful first half of the season. Best winner was Jack Hewitt 5, with Scott Harries best for the visitors 10. St Georges also had a fine 12-4 win at Burway to nearly match last year’s win there of 14-2. “As last year, a genuine very good result.” Cody Everitt was best winner 5, with Viv Cooper best for the home side 15. Wem USC got a much needed win over Meole Brace 10-4. Best winner was Sarah Weaver 10, and best for the away side was Doug Edwards 6. Chester Road will be happy with their 5 winners at Ifton, led by Dave Gourlay’s 21-9. It was home captain Dickie Jones that replied by the same score.
Sir John Bayley are 8 points clear of Castlefields and another point clear of Wrockwardine Wood. Wem USC are 4 behind Bylet and another 6 adrift of Adderley. Alex Jones and Rich Lawson are on 12 wins, with Alex now having won 11 consecutive games.
