Bayley get big win, Meole earn super six, Wrockites end Highley run
Sir John Bayley earned a big win in week 17 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. They won 12-4 at Hanwood to take a big step in regaining their league title. Vice-captain Tom Roden said “we travelled to Hanwood knowing we need to pick up difficult away wins if we’re going to keep up with Castlefields. But the 12-4 scoreline was beyond our expectations. Special mentions go to Ash Gregory who from 8-4 down led 20-8 playing immaculately along an edge to eventually win 12, and to Shaun Bould and Rich Lawson who played very well to win 6 and 5 respectively (to best winner). Both sides provided a great atmosphere all night and we wish Hanwood luck for the rest of the season.” Best winner for the Bayley was captain Dave Lloyd 4. It was an even bigger result as nearest rivals Castlefields only won 8-6 against Meole Brace. Meole skipper Nick Davies says “we didn’t win the game but at last we showed that we can compete with the ‘best’ and therefore got our most accomplished away performance of the season. Of the super six winners I’m giving extra plaudits to Will Tyler, Dave Redge (best winner 12) & Aiden Hughes. I’m not getting carried away but tonight’s result is something to build on and gain confidence from for the rest of the season and beyond.” Hayden Lewis and Wayne Rogers were best winners for the Fields 9. Wrockwardine Wood gained on Fields with a close 10-6 win at Highley to end their unbeaten home record. Captain Rob Jones says “we know we are chasing it now, but after last week that was a superb performance. Highley are much improved this season but that was much more like us.” Best winner was Steve Broome 6, while for the Highley it was Dave East 10.
Ifton had a good 11-3 win over Wem USC to move into 4th place. Best winners were Nicky Jones and Darren Lacey 5, with Gareth Davies best for Wem 21-6. Adderley gained a point on Wem USC with 4 winners at St Georges. Ian Howell was their best winner 11 and Clay Flattley best for the Dragons 2. Bylet beat Chester Road 9-5 as Cheryl Caswell led the way 21-7 and Steve Rogers did the same for the Roaders 21-11. Burway will be happy with 4 winners at Hanmer as Duncan Pressley was best winner for them 9 and Nathan Lacey was best winner 6 for the hosts.
Sir John Bayley are 11 ahead of Castlefields, who are another four ahead of Wrockwardine Wood. Adderley are a point behind Wem USC, with Burway another 15 ahead. Alex Jones is ahead of the League Averages still with 15 wins.
