Hanwood face leaders, Shrewsbury Derby, Highley take on Champs
Hanwood face the leaders Sir John Bayley in week 17 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Captain Rich Lawson knows its “always a tough test when the Bayley visit, given how strong they are, I’ll take any kind of home win.” Hanwood responded to their first home loss of the season to Castlefields by beating Hanmer 12-2, and will want to keep that momentum going, while the Bayley come off beating one of their rivals Castlefields 10-4 last win. The Fields will look to bounce back as they take on Shrewsbury neighbours Meole Brace. Meole skipper Nick Davies says “it’s always a tough task to get anything from the game playing Castlefields when they are at home and particularly when they’re in contention for the league title. They will be looking to get every point on offer in the local derby. However, we’ve got a full squad to choose from and although our away form has been poor this season, we’ll head to Queen Street in good spirits and try to win as many games as possible.” Wrockwardine Wood are another team looking to bounce back from a home loss, last week against St Georges, when they travel to Highley, where they won 13-3 last season, but Highley are unbeaten at home so far this season. Highley captain Reece Farr says “we are looking to continue our home form against a Wrockwardine Wood side who aren’t performing like they did last year. We will be looking to change last year’s defeat at home to a win this year!”
St Georges will be buoyant following that win last week and will want to build on that as they entertain bottom of the table Adderley, who come off a shock home loss to Wem USC last Friday. Wem travel again this week to Ifton, who could still possibly gate crash the top three with a good end to the season. Burway face a long trip to Hanmer, with both coming off disappointing results last Friday scoring just 6 points between them. Bylet have won their last three games and will look for a potentially record 4th win in a row in the league when they host Chester Road, who come off a good home win against Highley last week.
