Dragons, Fields & Hanwood win well, Hanmer defeat Champs, Ifton win away
St Georges, Castlefields and Hanwood won well at home in week 19 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. St Georges beat Wem USC 13-1 to continue their good form lately. Captain Tony Rhodes said “we needed a big win to stay in touch and got it. Very pleased.” Best winner was Nige Evans 6, with Tim Jordan the winner for Wem 18. Castlefields closed the gap at the top by 2 points with a 12-2 win over Adderley. Best winner was Hayden Lewis 5, while Adam Coxon was best for the Adders 17. Sir John Bayley defeated the Burway 10-4 with Kane Beaman leading the way 8 and George Cooper best for the visitors 10. Hanwood returned to form with a 12-2 home victory over Chester Road. Skipper Rich Lawson was “really pleased with how we played last night to get a good home win. Credit to the new lads Dave Turner and Steve Heighway, who both played well to win. Steve Rogers was impressive in beating Ash Wellings.” Mark Shore was their best winner 4 with Martin Lloyd best for the Roaders 16.
Hanmer had a great win over the Champions Wrockwardine Wood 10-4. Captain Ieuan Pugh commented on “a good performance against a strong side. We knew it was going to be a tough game against them as they beat us last year at our place. We got off to a good start with Lee Peate winning 7 at number one (to be best winner), which kick started the night for us and it continued right to number 12. Good luck to Wrockwardine for the rest of the season.” Andy Jones was best winner 14 for the Champs. Ifton won 10-6 at Highley to be the one away win of the night. Captain Dickie Jones was “happy to get an away win against a good Highley side. We went 3-1 up with Leighton Roberts winning to 4 (to be best winner). Craig Griffiths and Ian Jones played well in the middle to both win, and Kieran Roberts from 19-12 down found a mark to run out. Hopefully we put a run together now and finish the season strong.” Best winner for the home side was captain Reece Farr 13. Meole Brace got a good six winners at the Bylet. Skipper Nick Davies said “it was good to bounce back after our home defeat last week and get another good result on the road, this time at Bylet. Bylet took an early advantage with 3 winners on the front but plaudits for Julian Cooke edging out Bylet’s captain Scott Harries. That set the scene for a comeback from the team where at one stage we led 5-4 on games. However, credit to Bylet who got over the line in the end in an enjoyable match that was played in the right spirit.” Best winner for the Bylet was Rich Taylor 5, while Doug Edwards was best for Meole 6.
Sir John Bayley are 8 ahead of Castlefields, who are 12 ahead of Wrockwardine Wood. Wem USC are 3 behind Adderley who are 19 adrift of Burway. Alex Jones is now two wins ahead of Tom Roden at the top of the League Averages.
