Bayley & Fields look to finish top, Wem & Adderley aim to avoid bottom spot
Sir John Bayley and Castlefields look to finish top of the 2023 Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League in week 26. The Bayley host an 8 point lead over the Fields at the top, and travel to bottom placed Wem USC needing just 6 winners to win their fourth title. Bayley vice-captain Tom Roden says “once again we go into the final game of the season with a job to do to clinch the league title. We know exactly what’s required and we’re prepared for a challenging night in Wem. We’ve had a great season regardless, but a win tomorrow would mark the best season in the clubs history.” Wem USC on the other hand, are 7 points behind Adderley as they aim to avoid finishing bottom for the second time in their history. Skipper George Williams says “we go into the final game of the season with a mathematical chance of still dragging ourselves off the bottom spot. But against class opposition fighting for the title it’s going to be tough. That being said I believe in my team and we won’t be lying down or rolling over, we will fight to the bitter end.” Castlefields host Burway looking for as many points as possible to take advantage of any slipups. Captain Adie Rowe says “we welcome Burway to the Fields for the last match of the season and as always will be trying our best to get as many as we can! As the saying goes ‘you never know until a certain lady sings’. I’ve told the boys to just enjoy the night as I’m sure the Burway lads will!” Burway will be looking to outscore Meole Brace by 1 point to move up to 8th place as Meole travel to Adderley, who know a home win will guarantee Premier League bowls next season. Skipper Gary Whitehall says “we look forward to welcoming Meole to Adderley for the final game, a team that we know well with 3 ex Adderley players in their line-up. Our pre season target was minimum 140 points which often sees you safe! We will need a good result to achieve that but will give it a good go.”
Hanmer will look to earn a top half finish as they travel to Highley, who will be looking to try and move above Chester Road in 10th. The Roaders go to St Georges, who are cemented in 4th place whatever happens tomorrow. Wrockwardine Wood are also cemented in 3rd place, and go to Ifton who are 5 clear of Hanwood in 5th as Hanwood travel to the Bylet, a green they have a good record on. Bylet would need a big win to have any chance of catching the two teams above them.
