Jamie King and Mark Thomas qualified at the Bylet. Jamie defeated Meole pair Dave Redge 20 and Will Childs 9, after Will beat Phil Jones 13. Mark took three good wins to get through, Pete Grimston 20, Josh Hale 16 and Tony Rhodes 17 after Tony had beat team mate Joe Killen 19 and Chris Worthington 16. Joe had earlier got past Tom Roden 9, and Josh Hale beat Hayden Lewis 13.

Mike Beer qualified after defeating Dave Bamford in a high quality qualifier 11 after racing 11-4 up and holding off a comeback when Dave got back to just 13-9 behind. Mike had beaten Dan Williams 11 after going 11-5 up and running out from 14-11 ahead. Dave defeated Simon Lane 13 after virtually running out from 13-11 up. In the first round of games, Dan Williams got past Craig Jones 14, a 13 break from 7-4 down being the difference. Simon fought back from 11-6 and 16-10 down to run out from 20-16 behind against team mate Dave Turner, while Dave Bamford was 8-4 down on Gary Neal, but helped by a mark down the edge, won 13.

Rich Lawson defeated Gary Beff 11, going 17-8 up from 8-7 down. He had beaten Ben Hinton in his first game 17, while Gary got past Jon Palmer 17. Michael had beaten Stu Rutter 15 and Steve Heighway 10 in his two games before.
