Fields bounce back, Dragons roar away, Bayley Fightback
Castlefields bounced back from their disappointing week 1 result by beating Bylet 13-1 in week 2 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Captain Steve Peach said it was a “good start at home with Callum Wraight (best winner 5) and Mike Beer leading the way. Jon Palmer had very good game with Rob Fuller and we shaded a couple of the close games which always helps! Bylet’s Joe Dicken played very well in beating cheese and onion (21-17), overall a solid start at Queen Street!” St Georges also bounced back from a disappointing opening game by winning at Horsehay 11-5. Skipper Josh Bradburn said “I felt Horsehay were a stronger side than I imagined they would be and gave us a really good game . They were fairly vocal around the green which made for a good atmosphere. We was happy to get our first away win, we are not all playing to our potential yet but looking forward to when we do all click together.” Best winners were Keith Wall and Tony Rhodes 10 with Spencer Collins, Neil Harris and Michael Cooper the best winner for the Hoss 15.
Sir John Bayley fought back to beat rivals Wrockwardine Wood 9-5. Vice-captain Tom Roden said “as expected, Wrock Wood were at it from the off and went into a deserved 3-1 lead. However, we managed to reset, and took both the middle and back 3-1 with some big cards thrown in for a solid 9-5 win.” Opposition captain Rob Jones admitted he was “delighted and disappointed at the same time. Delighted with 5 points from the game and how we played overall, but we were pretty disappointed too that from 3-1 up we weren’t able to kick on. Bayley are a very strong side and I’d have taken 5 points at 7pm.” Best winner for the Bayley was Reece Farr 5, with Jamie King and Sam Millward the best for the Wrockites 15.
Meole Brace continued their good start to the season beating Wem USC 11-3. Skipper Nick Davies said “we knew that Wem would be buzzing after their brilliant win against Castlefields on the opening day and as we’re back on the No.2 green, which some of the team are not so familiar with – there was always a risk we could be caught out. So, it was a superb performance to win 11-3 which backed up last week’s decent result at St Georges. There was Andy Wigginton rolling back the years, Mark Thomas hitting form after an indifferent start and plenty of fist pumping from Dave ‘yeti’ Redge!!! But special mention for Will Tyler for digging himself out of a hole and not giving up with some excellent bowls to get over the line.” Doug Edwards and Will Childs were best winners 7 for the home side, and Luke Boniface best for Wem 11. Hanmer defeated Hanwood 9-5 with new signing John Paddington best for them 21-3, and Rich Lawson best for the away side 15. Burway also won 9-5 against Adderley led by captain Adam Dovey’s 7 win. For the visitors it was Tom Killen best winner 12. Ifton defeated Highley 10-4 with our Merit winner Nick Jones best winner 10 and new debutant Rich Holmes best for the Miners 13.
