Top two clash, Horsehay look for first win, Shrewsbury Derby
The top two clash in week 6 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. The Champions Sir John Bayley host Castlefields in a preview of the Audlem Special Events Team Alan Mayhew Trophy the following night. Castlefields skipper Steve Peach said “this will be our toughest test all season make no mistake about it. We go there in decent form but know it’s going to take a huge effort from the lads to get what we want from the game, fingers crossed it’s a good weekend for us Fielders!” There is also a big game at the bottom as Horsehay look for their first win of the season at home to fellow strugglers Bylet. Spokesman Steve Reeves says “we look forward to welcoming our friends from the Bylet to the Hoss, in what should be a entertaining game. Both teams are familiar with each other after playing in the Highley League so I’m sure there will be plenty of banter flying around.” Wrockwardine Wood make the long trip down to Burway looking to take advantage of the top two meeting. This game last year produced the lowest aggregate score in possibly the history of the league with Burway winning 9-5, and should be a much closer affair this time round.
There is a Shrewsbury derby as Meole Brace host Hanwood. Meole skipper Nick Davies says “once again it’s that time to welcome our local rivals and good friends Hanwood. As usual it will be a competitive derby game with I’m sure plenty of good natured banter around the green. The weathers set fine so a bit of pace in the green will suit both sets of players which should encourage some fine bowling.” St Georges look to continue their good form as they travel to Adderley, who themselves have had some good results so far this season. Ifton have had a good run too and host Hanmer who come off two poor home results and will hope to have more of their regulars available. Wem USC will look for their first win since the opening game of the season as they entertain Highley, who come off a couple of poor results themselves.
