Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowls League
Fields & Ifton win well away, Highley earn super six, Burway continue good form
Castlefields and Ifton won well away in week 8 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. The Fields won 12-4 at Adderley to please captain Steve Peach. “A superb team performance matching our result there last year. The green was in super condition and Michael Beer and Ian Howell had the game of the night, it was an exceptional game of bowls, and we were very happy with the away win!” Jon Palmer was best winner 6 while Matty Worden was best for the home side 3. Ifton also won away at Meole Brace 11-5. Skipper Dickie Jones is “very happy to have won against a Meole side who have been in good form. We were 3-1 after the front four, Ian Jones was outstanding to win 21-2 (to be best winner) and put us back in the game. Other good performances sealed an excellent away win.” Best winner for Meole was Julian Cooke 3. Highley sealed a super six winners at Wrockwardine Wood. Captain Stu Gittings said “I personally did not get their until the middle 4 were on at which point we were 2-2
AJ was in charge and obviously did a good job. Great performance from us which could only have been bettered with a win on shots. The green was a friendly pace to be fair but some good cards from us none better than Phil Chester’s (best winner 10) against Liam Stevens. I have to say they have some good players and some decent guys but some of the comments really don’t belong around a bowing Green at this level. But ah well have to do them next year!” Best winner for the home side was Scott Moseley and Sam Millward 11.
League leaders Sir John Bayley continued their unbeaten run with a whitewash of Horsehay led by Scott Simpson’s 2 win. Burway continued their good form with a 12-2 win over Hanmer. Skipper Adam Dovey commented “after last week’s good result against Castlefields, we wanted to make sure we didn’t waste that by getting a bad result at home. We started really winning the first 8 games with Dave Wilding getting a great result, and then picking two games up in the back with Jesse James getting a good result against Mike Gilpin.” Adam himself was best winner 5 with Nathan Lacey best winner 9. St Georges defeated Hanwood 10-4 with Pete Grimston best winner 4 and Shaun Bould best for the away side 15. Wem USC also won 10-4 versus the Bylet. Luke Boniface was best winner 6 for Wem and John Newey 13 for the Bylet.
Sir John Bayley are 10 ahead of Wrockwardine Wood and another two clear of Wrockwardine Wood. Horsehay are 4 behind the Bylet, who are 5 behind Hanmer. Callum Wraight and Dan Taylor are the only unbeaten players in the league.
