Rivals meet, Meole face another tough test, Two in form teams clash
Two rivals, and the most successful teams in the league’s history, meet in Telford as St Georges host Castlefields in week 10 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Both teams have had good starts to the season, but the hosts did have a poor result at Highley last week. Skipper Josh Bradburn knows it is a “difficult game, Castlefields are a top side with two of the best players in the game so will be tough. But we are confident we can get a good home win to keep pushing for the top 3.” League leaders Sir John Bayley suffered their first defeat last week against Ifton and face another away trip to Meole Brace as they look to bounce back. Meole have had their own two disappointing results after coming off their own good run in May. Captain Nick Davies says “we are now into the third game of a difficult set of four fixtures which has seen us so far lose at home to Ifton and away at Castlefields. We host the champions Friday evening on the back of a narrow win over Shifnal in the County Cup. I’m hoping that the confidence gained will give us some momentum into what will be a difficult match against a class team. I’ve also made a few changes in personnel to try to shake things up a bit so we’ll have to see how that goes!” Wrockwardine Wood will be looking to potentially go top of the league if they can get a good home win over an inconsistent Hanmer, who did have a good home win over Wem last week.
Burway and Ifton are two of the most in form teams in the league, Burway getting 25 points from their last two games while Ifton have won their last four games. Home skipper Adam Dovey is “looking forward to welcoming Ifton down for what will be a tough game against a very good side. Hoping to carry on our recent form and get another win on the board.” Highley will look to keep their good run going against Hanwood at home, but the visitors come off inflicting a whitewash last week. The team they whitewashed last week, Adderley, host the Bylet, neither team having won since April, and need the points to keep away from the bottom. Horsehay are currently 7 points adrift at the bottom, and will need to make sure they keep with the pack of teams above as they travel to Wem USC, who know a good home win will mean they can relax more away from the bottom.
