Fields edge out Dragons, Bayley return to winning ways, Hanwood continue form, Wem win big
Castlefields picked up an important 10-6 win at St Georges in week 10 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Captain Steve Peach says it was “a fantastic team result which ended in a 10-6 win. I’m not going to lie the game could have gone either way, you only have to look at the close games to realise that, but our back 4 held it together to get us there over the line and a vital away win! Above all that everyone at Castlefields send our best wishes to Cody Everett and wish him a speedy recovery.” Best winner was Rich Goddard 9, with Clay Flattley’s 5 win best for the home side. Sir John Bayley returned to winning ways with a 11-5 win at Meole Brace. Vice-captain Tom Roden says “we’re over the moon with an away win at Meole as it’s an unpredictable fixture for us. The green was in superb condition but perhaps a friendly pace for an away team. Games and aggregate were tight throughout most of the match and the atmosphere ramped up into the back four as both teams pushed for the win. All the best to the Meole team for the rest of the season.” Best winner for the Bayley was Ayden Smith 8 and for Meole it was Will Tarrell 12.
Hanwood continued their good run with a 9-7 win at Highley. Skipper Simon Lane said “after a run of a few good results the lads are playing with more confidence, we were going into Fridays game thinking we would give them a tough game. The match was played in good spirit, they managed to pip 3 or 4 of the close matches which was frustrating for us but we still walked away with 9 points which we would have taken before the game.” Best winner was Rich Lawson 6, while Simon Rhodes was best for the Miners 10. Wem USC beat Horsehay 13-1 to move clear of their opponents who are still bottom of the league. Skipper Andy Marshall says “it was pleasing to get our best home win for 7 years although we ended up finishing bottom that year in 2017! We wish Horsehay all the best of luck for the rest of the season as they are a good bunch.” Best winner was Curtis Metcalfe 2 with the winner for Horsehay being Richard Jones 13. Burway and Ifton had a close game with the home side winning 8-6. Richard Lane was best winner 7 for the hosts and Joe Langford best for the visitors 9. Wrockwardine Wood defeated Hanmer 11-3 to move in 2nd place, Greg Smith best winner 2 and Lee Peate best for the away side 11. Adderley won their first game since April with a 10-4 victory over the Bylet, who remain winless since the opening day of the season. Adderley’s best winners were Jamie Brookes, Ian Howell and Jack Hazeldine all 21-11, and Bylet’s was Grant Cooper 11.
Sir John Bayley are 5 ahead of Wrockwardine Wood who are another point ahead of Castlefields. Horsehay are now 10 behind Bylet who are another 7 behing Adderley. Callum Wraight is on 10 out of 10 wins.
